Description
You are buying a life size detailed wood carving of an African Pygmy Goose. Even though this bird looks like a goose, it is an African member of the Tree Duck family. It is a very colorful iridescent bird. Since this duck is shy, only seen in Africa or in a few captive wild animal facilities such as the San Diego Zoo in the USA, a photo of a live Pygmy Goose is included for comparison of anatomy and colorization.
The duck was carved (sculptured) from Tupelo. After roughing out the bird fine detail was carved with various high speed bits. Additional feather detail was achieved with a burning pen (Pyrography). The finished artwork was then sealed and painted with acrylic paint using a combination of an airbrush and regular artist’s brushes.
All our wood carvings are hand made in our art studio here in the coastal bend of Texas.
