Description
This is a detailed wood carving (sculpture) of a Ruddy Turnstone in breathing plumage.
The bird is life-size and measures 6″x7″x3″.
I carved and detailed the shorebird from tupelo wood and turned a basswood base on my lath. The side of the base was decorated with silhouettes of shorebirds to simulate the natural habitat. The top edge of the base was decorated with a herringbone design made with a burning pen. The legs were made with brass rods and square tubing covered with epoxy which was then sculpted white still pliable. The bird and legs were painted with acrylic paint.
All our wood carvings are made in our art studio here in the coastal bend of Texas. Each piece is band sawed, then carved to shape. The painting medium used is acrylic paint.
