Description

This 4.75″” wooden vase is turned from a single piece of Ash hardwood.
The finished product is suitable for use as a budvase, trinket container or display.
After shaping the vase, beading tools are used to form the beads. This platter was turned, beaded, indexed and painted by me.
Pyrography is also used to burn the herringbone design on the rim and base of the platter.
The final product looks like a woven basket, hence the name “basket illusion”. Depending on the size of the peace and the number of lines per inch, both vertically and horizontally, the peace can take days or weeks to get ready for the next step. The next step is using polar graph paper to create a design. This is followed by painting the design on the wood. I use high quality water color paint that is painstakingly applied with small spotting brushes. At least two to three coats of paint is applied to get the desired color. The last step is to finish it with at least 2 coats of satin enamel.
Thebowl stands 3.75″ tall and has a diameter of 3″.
